Malheim resigns, City Council seeks to fill vacant seat

On March 28, 2022 at 3:30 p.m. the City of Winthrop was notified, in writing, from Councilor Dale Malheim that, effective immediately, he would be resigning from his duties as a City Councilor. Malheim thanked the citizens of Winthrop for allowing him to serve them for seven years. He also stated that he wished the citizens of Winthrop the best in their future endeavors. Malheim handed his notice to City Administrator Looft before the regularly scheduled city council meeting. Mayor Kelly Pierson said that Dale was always thinking of new ways to save the citizens of the town money. He was instrumental in making sure the sledding hill was groomed and maintained for the snow season. Malheim also served on the administration/bargaining committee and the utilities committee. Mayor Pierson said that he will appoint new committee members in Malheim’s absence until another councilor can be appointed. In accordance with City Code 201.10 Filing Vacancies: City Council is seeking to appoint a willing citizen to the newly vacant seat at their next city council meeting, April 25, 2022. Applicants have until April 15, 2022, at 5pm to submit their application. A resume, in lieu of an application, is also acceptable. Council meetings are every fourth Monday of the month at 7 p.m. The appointment will be to fill out the remaining term, which ends on December 31, 2022. Applications can be picked up at City Hall Monday-Thursday 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. and Friday 7:30 a.m.-12 p.m. Completed applications can be sent to: P.O. Box Y, 305 N. Main St. Applicants will then be discussed at the next full city council meeting on April 25, 2022. If no applications are received the council reserves the right to appoint a qualified citizen.
