Lafayette Fire Department has practice house burn

The Lafayette Fire Department had the opportunity to practice last Thursday as they burnt down Daune and Melva Eckberg’s former home. Seven generations of Eckberg memories was the way one of the great-granddaughters summarized the house. The house was built in 1907 by Carl “Charlie” Eckberg and his wife Emma. Then son Kenneth and Annie Lou Eckberg moved in. In 1962 grandson Duane and Melva Eckberg took over the home with their three daughters. Duane and Melva moved into Winthrop seven years ago.
