WEDA approves purchase of Winthrop Market building
by Michael Mattison
The Winthrop Economic Development Authority (WEDA) approved a resolution to buy the Winthrop Market property at a special meeting on Monday evening. The purchase will be for $158,000 and contingent on a building inspection. The Winthrop City Council also approved a resolution that it will borrow the loan amount to WEDA and that amount will be paid back to the City of Winthrop over a few years. The WEDA resolution passed by a 5-2 vote while the City Council vote was tied at 2-2 with Mayor Rob Edwards casting the deciding yes vote.
Before the special meetings of each governmental entity, Drew Schmidt appeared before the City Council in a work session to explain what he was looking for from the city.
