It’s been a long time in the making but the restoration of wetlands and the drawdown of Indian Lake is nearing completion. A delegation from Ducks Unlimited, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and local community members gathered to take a tour of what has been done at the location a few miles northeast of Winthrop.
John Lindstrom of Ducks Unlimited said the process began when Dave Muchow worked with the Fish and Wildlife Service to restore wetlands on his private property and that led to DNR pursuing a land purchase from Muchow and which then gave DU the lead through its Outdoor Heritage Fund. The first piece of land was bought in 2016 and has blossomed into this final project and the drawdown of Indian Lake.
