School building projects highlight February board meeting

by Doug Hanson
The GFW School Board held its regular meeting on Tuesday, February 20th. During Superintendent Jeff Horton’s report, it was stated that the bid opening for the new school was pushed back a week because an addendum was completed. The opening will be online and then the bids will be provided to the School Board with the approval of bids at the March 18th regular meeting.
On March 1st Horton, Sibley County Tim Becker and others will go to Mankato to meet with MnDOT to go over pathway improvements. GFW has applied for some grants to connect the downtown City of Gibbon to the school site. This could add pathways for walking, biking, etc. to and throughout the school site. It may also include lighting. One of the highway crossing areas would be by Ely Avenue with a sidewalk to the school. All the pathways are on the MnDOT right away.
