Heartland Corn Products continues growth

by Michael Mattison
Heartland Corn Products has been located on the east end of Winthrop for several decades now. Constructed in 1995, it started out producing 10 million gallons of ethanol a year.
HCP currently produces three products. The main product is ethanol which it produces approximately 150 million gallons a year from the nearly 50 million bushels of corn that the patrons deliver to the plant.
They also have by-products in the form of dried distillers grain and corn oil. Dried distillers grain is used primarily in the animal feed market. “A good portion of those support local farming operations,” said HCP CEO/General Manager Tom Paitrick. The majority of the corn oil goes into bio-diesel and renewable diesel feed stock.
