Volunteers provide emergency services to area

by Michael Mattison
The cities of Winthrop, Gibbon and Lafayette are extremely fortunate to have community members who volunteer their time and talents to serve on ambulance and rescue departments.
The Winthrop Ambulance crew is divided into day and evening shifts. The day crew is on Monday-Friday, 6 a.m.-6 p.m.
The night crew is on 6 p.m-6 a.m. There are four crews, each taking one night of the week and they then rotate the weekends.
Winthrop has two ambulances for transporting.
Gibbon Fire and Rescue is set up differently. Each of their members are on call 24-hours a day. When a page goes out, everyone who is able to respond could be on the call. They also are not able to transport. That duty falls on the Winthrop crew that is on call.
