Filings open for city, school offices

Many public offices are open in the area for the general election in November and filing for those offices close on Tuesday, Aug. 13.
The GFW School Board will be electing one board member for each town. Seats open are Russel Miller in Winthrop, Mark Turtle in Gibbon and Dan Merkel in Fairfax.
In the City of Winthrop, the mayor position currently held by Julie Trebelhorn will be on the ballot as well as the 4-year Council positions held by Wanda Renner and Kelly Pierson. A two-year Council position currently held by Ed Stoll will also be on the ballot.
In the City of Gibbon Mayor Steve Klukas is up for re-election. The Council seats of April Firle and Greg Hartmann will be on the ballot.
The Mayor position in the City of Lafayette will be up for election. The current mayor is Sandie Peterson. The Councilman seats of Scott Portner and Curt Tauber will also be elected this fall.
