Gleason retires from Winthrop Fire Department

by Michael Mattison
For just over 30 years, Mark Gleason has been serving the Winthrop community as a volunteer fire fighter for the Winthrop Fire Department. December 31 will be his final day with the Department.
Gleason joined the Department in August of 1994. He said at that time there was a waiting list to get on the Department. He knew several members at the time and indicted that he was interested in joining. Four years later after he bought a house in town, “Eddie Liesenfeld came knocking on my door one day. He said, ‘I understand you want to join the fire department. Come on down Tuesday night and you’re on,’” Gleason said. “I’m glad I did it.”
