Council tackles storage container, abatement issues
by Michael Mattison
The Winthrop City Council unanimously approved the first reading of an ordinance to amend the City Code addressing storage containers.
The change allows for storage containers under certain circumstances. A permit must be obtained before placement of the container with the permit valid for one year. An extension of up to six months is available. One container per lot is allowed and they must be structurally sound and in good repair. Placement must be on a hard surface such as pavement or gravel and meet all setback requirements. There are size restrictions and they may not be used as residential units. They must also be used primarily for temporary storage purposes. The area around the container must be kept neat.
