Evenson finds hidden Gibbon, area treasures

by Michael Mattison
Things, like people, have an interesting history. The stories they could tell, if only they could talk. Jim Evenson has been collecting items for many years and is their storyteller at his shed/museum in rural Gibbon. Evenson calls it the Chicken Barn Museum of Insignificant Trivia.
When you drive into the yard, the first thing you will notice is a scoreboard. That scoreboard had a home for many years at the Gibbon football field and was actually donated by the Class of 1972, Evenson’s class. With a fear of having it put into a scrap heap, Evenson talked with Dave Theis, who is on the Gibbon City Council and also played football with Evenson, who took it to the Council and they voted to give Evenson the scoreboard.
On the scoreboard you will see the score of 14-10 in favor of the visiting team Morton, the clock almost to zero in the fourth quarter and a fourth down-and-one.
