Lafayette’s Dave’s Place is now My Place

by Ruth Klossner
After more than two decades as Dave’s Place, Lafayette’s only bar got a new owner and new name on December 1.
Rachell Welsch took over the reins, bringing nearly 30 years of bar experience to the fixture on Lafayette’s main street.
After 13 years employment at Rapid Rick’s in Nicollet and 15 years of management at a Lake Crystal bar, Welsch was ready for the next step.
“My goal was to eventually own my own place,” she said. “When a friend told me that Dave’s Place was up for sale, I came over…and that was that.”
Welsch added, “The building was in good shape, the inventory was fully stocked. And I like small towns.”
Papers were signed December 1. After a few days of cleaning and reorganization, the newly re-named My Place opened a few days later.
Rachell is excited to build on Dave’s Place reputation, while adding her own touches. She’ll be changing the menu, adding Reubens and different sandwiches, changing lunch specials, and adding “quick and easy, dish and go, for those with only a half hour for lunch.”
