GFW School Board hears good auditor report
by Doug Hanson
The GFW School Board heard a positive audit report at its meeting on January 20th. Since having a negative general fund balance in 2021, the School District has continued with a positive fund balance. Auditors suggest that a 12 percent balance over the budget should be the goal. The District has been above that figure for the past three years with a 16.1 percent balance this past year.
However, the auditor did point out that the average daily attendance has been decreasing for the past five years, which affects revenue.
The School Board had approved a negative budget to start last year, but a $103,277 negative balance was improved to a $174,605 positive balance by the end of the fiscal year.
