CALL TO ORDER
The special organizational board meeting of the GFW Public School Board was held on January 5, 2026 at the New GFW School Gibbon, MN. Board Chair Miller called the meeting to order at 6:06 p.m.
ALSO present: Superintendent Berg, Acree, Turtle, Grosam, Briese, Stehr, Press Hanson
Absent: None
APPROVE AGENDA
Briese moved with support from Acree to approve the agenda. Motion Carried.
REAFFIRMATION OF 200 LEVEL BOARD POLICIES
Briese moved with support from Grosam to reaffirm Level 200 Board Policies. Motion Carried
ELECTION OF OFFICERS
Miller nominated Grosam for Chair.
Briese nominated Miller for Chair
Voting yes for Grosam as chair: Miller, Acree, Turtle, Grosam
Voting no for Grosam as Chair: Stehr, Briese
Grosam is Chair with the majority vote.
Miller nominated himself for vice chair.
Voting yes for Miller as vice chair: Miller, Briese, Acree, Stehr, Grosam, Turtle
Miller is Vice Chair by unanimous vote
Miller nominated Briese for clerk.
Voting yes for Briese as Clerk: Miller, Acree, Turtle, Grosam, Stehr
Voting no for Briese as Clerk: Briese
Briese is Clerk with the majority vote.
Miller nominated Stehr for treasurer.
Voting yes for Stehr as treasurer: Briese, Stehr, Miller,Turtle, Acree, Grosam
Stehr is Treasurer by unanimous vote
OTHER BUSINESS
Designate GFW Public Schools Depositories
Stehr moved with support from Acree to designate First National Bank of Fairfax and PMA Financial as primary official depositories and Perennial Bank of Winthrop and Minn West Bank of Gibbon as secondary depositories for 2026. Motion Carried.
Designate GFW School District Newspaper
Acree moved with support from Turtle to designate the Fairfax Standard Gazette and the Winthrop News as the 2026 GFW Public Schools Official Newspapers. Motion Carried.
Name GFW Public Schools District Legal Counsel and Authorized Contact(s)
Stehr moved with support from Briese to designate the Law Firm Kennedy and Graven as the 2026 GFW Public Schools District Official Legal Council and Superintendent and Board Chair as legal contacts. Motion Carried.
Set School Board Stipends/Mileages/Meal Reimbursement Rates for 2026
Board & Committee Meetings $50
Chairperson Annual Stipend $500
Clerk Annual Stipend $300
Treasurer Annual Stipend $500
Mileage Reimbursement IRS Rate ($0.725/mile for 2026)
Meal Reimbursement
Breakfast General Services Administration Rate
Lunch GSA Rate
Dinner GSA Rate
Acree moved with support from Stehr to set the School Board Stipends/Mileages/Meal Reimbursement Rates for 2026 as stated above. Motion Carried.
Appoint GFW Public Schools Board Committee Members
Executive Committee: Stehr, Miller, Grosam
Finance, Facility and Long-Range Planning Committee: Briese, Turtle, Acree
Policy Committee: Acree, Grosam, Miller
Community Engagement Committee: Turtle, Stehr, Briese
River Bend Special Education Cooperative Representative: Briese
MSHSL Representative: Grosam
Sibley County Children’s Collaborative Representative: Miller, Alternate: Stehr
Miller moved with support from Acree to go with the above committees. Motion Carried.
Establish Meeting Dates for Regular Meetings and Committee of the Whole
Miller moved with support of Turtle to approve the 2026 regular meeting dates. Motion Carried.
** The Committee of the Whole will continue to meet as stated on 2026 meeting dates.
ADJOURNMENT
Briese moved with support from Acree to adjourn at 6:30 p.m.. Motion Carried.
