Local police look to possibly forming new department
by Michael Mattison
In late April, the chiefs of police from Winthrop, Gibbon and Gaylord presented information to the city councils of each town on a concept that would combine the three departments into one. The Winthrop City Council held a work session on Monday to discuss the matter again.
Winthrop Chief Logan Anderson said they are looking at long-term sustainability for law enforcement in the region. He stated that all three departments have faced the same set of challenges and they want to find a solution that makes sense to all of the communities.
Tri-Line Police Department is proposed with the name coming from the three communities and the railroad that connects them.
Anderson said, “Three communities, one department and we are stronger together.”
