Thunderbirds hold on to defeat Wabasso

They built a big lead in the second half but the GFW Thunderbird girls basketball team weathered a late charge by Wabasso to garner a 48-44 win on their home court.
After falling behind 6-2 to start the game, the T-Birds held the Rabbits scoreless for seven minutes and took a 20-6 lead. Taylor Schafer would put in her own miss and Taylor Bauer sank two free throws that tied the score at 6-6. Marti Jacobson gave GFW the lead that it would not relinquish with a three-pointer. Bauer added two more free throws with Nicole Duehn scoring on a layup. Two more free throws by Bauer, followed with her steal and layup put GFW up by 11 points. Duehn and Mady Lee each hit a free throw and Jenna Schweiss added two of her own for the 14-point lead.
