Firebirds baseball collects three wins for the week

The GFW Firebirds baseball team posted a 3-1 record last week and improved to 6-10 overall.
GFW started the week with a 5-3 victory over Wabasso on Monday.
Tied 1-1 after the first, the Firebirds scored three in the bottom of the second for a 5-3 lead. Isaac Beckendorf reached on a fielder’s choice and Kellen Nachreiner drew a two-out walk and both scored when Owen Swenson reached on an error. Kaden Rieke then tripled home Swenson.
Both teams scored a run in the fourth inning to make it 5-2 as Swenson hit a RBI-double.
Wabasso scored one in the sixth and left runners on third and first.
All three of GFW’s hits went for extra bases as Swenson and Koufax Rose had doubles and Rieke a triple.
Rieke went 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits a four walks while striking out seven. Rose pitched 1 1/3 innings, giving up a hit and striking out two.
