Reds earn another win
The Gibbon Reds entertained their home fans at McGowan Field on Sunday, July 7th competing against the St. James Athletics. Starting pitcher was Dominic Rose who pitched six innings. He gave up five hits, three walks, and recorded five strikeouts. Nolan Huiras finished the last three innings giving up three hits and throwing four strikeouts for the win.
The Reds scored the first run in the second inning starting with a single from Kyle Mauer who later scored with help from a Rose single. The fourth inning Aaron Bruns was able to score after he hit a double to put himself on base. Huiras had a single and Devon Schwarzrock walked for extra base runners.
Josh Wasmund knew when he hit the ball in the fifth inning he could take his time around the bases. The Reds were now winning 3-1. The Athletics scored two in the seventh to tie the game. The ninth inning was left up to the pitcher. After Drew Schwarzrock was hit-by-a-pitch, Tony Stadtherr, Huiras, and Brendan Kienlen all earned walks to bring Schwarzrock home for the win, 4-3.
The Gibbon Reds travel Wednesday to Leavenworth and then home again for Fan Appreciation on Sunday, July 14th against Lamberton. Their final regular season game is Wednesday, July 17th versus Fairfax.
