Firebirds girls basketball gets winter sports season underway

by Michael Mattison
Thanksgiving hasn’t even come yet and the GFW Firebird girls basketball team is already through three games of their season.
The Firebirds began with the Wabasso Invitational where they were defeated by Westbrook-Walnut Grove 68-36 on Friday and Murray County Central 72-45 on Saturday.
GFW had its first home game on Monday evening, a 44-33 loss to Martin County West.
The Firebirds got out to a quick start with Keyden Buboltz scoring in the paint and Taylor Bauer picking up a steal and converting a fast-break layup for a 4-1 lead.
MCW scored the next six points before Bauer tied it up with a three-pointer at 7-7. Lauren Schafer put GFW back in front by two points on the next possession with a layup.
