Gladys Woller

Gladys Woller, age 101 of Winthrop, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Bayside Manor in Gaylord. Funeral Service was held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, 1:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mountville, Dryden Township, Sibley County, Minnesota, with interment in the church cemetery.
Clergy Officiating: Pastor Michael Harman.
Organist: Lisa Uecker.

Gladys Marie (Thenemann) Woller was born November 20, 1924, to Henry and Marie (Bubolz) Thenemann. She was baptized by the Reverend Peter Mueller of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Bismarck Township, Sibley County, Minnesota. Gladys was confirmed on May 8, 1938, at First Lutheran Church of Winthrop by Pastor Earnest Martell. She attended Winthrop High School and after graduation was employed by the Winthrop State Bank.
On November 19, 1944, she married Vernon Woller at Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop. Their marriage was blessed with two children. After their marriage, the couple farmed the family-owned century farm for all their active years together. Later she also worked at Busch Brothers Department Store and Graham’s Shopper’s Village in Gaylord for 18 years.
Gladys was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church all her married life and active in teaching Sunday School and was the Sunday School Superintendent. She was also a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, serving in several offices. Gladys was instrumental in planning the 150th Anniversary of St. John’s Lutheran Church and catalogued all the information on the cemetery monuments and translated the inscriptions from German to English, which were published in a book for the church.
She was a life-time member of the Sibley County Historical Society. She also spent years researching the family genealogy.
Gladys enjoyed helping Vernon on the farm and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved organizing events, historical studies, and genealogies. She also enjoyed gardening, especially flowers and birds, and antiquing.
Gladys and Vernon shared 67 years of marriage before Vernon passed away on December 27, 2011. Gladys remained on the farm until she moved to Bayside Manor on September 2, 2021. Blessed be her memory.
Gladys is survived by her: Children, Nancy (Charles Marcus) of Leawood, KS, Steven and his wife, Cyd of Upsala, MN; Grandsons, Jay (Heidi) Woller of LaCrescent, MN; Scott (Amber) of Minneapolis, MN; Great-grandchildren, Kaiya, Abrea, Parker and Payson Woller; Sister, Val Youngblom of St. Peter, MN; Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Gladys was preceded in death by her Parents, Henry and Marie Thenemann, Husband, Vernon Woller; Sisters, Viola Gordon, Elizabeth “Betty” Nelson, Doris Schuft, and Ruth West; Brothers, Fred, Ervin, and Willard Thenemann; Daughter-in-law, Susan Woller.
