Ruiz, Wersal qualify for State Track Meet

The GFW Firebirds girls track team scored 22 points, placing 13th at the Section Meet. MVL/Cathedral won the meet with 87 points and St. Clair/Imannuel Lutheran placed second with 80 points.
In this meet the top two individuals and top two relays advance to the State Meet. There is also a time and distance qualifying standard that may qualify more individuals for the State Meet.
Silvana Ruiz ran a strong race placing second and qualifying for state in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes 21.06 seconds which is a new school record. She broke her own recently set record of 2:23.63 which was set at the Sub-Section Meet a week ago.
Annie Wersal placed second in the discus and qualified for the State Meet with a throw of 123 feet 10 inches. Wersal also placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 33—0.
